Are you running the latest firmware?
You shouldn't be able to use tap mode an midi play at the same time in v1.028..

These are two solder pads in the bd circuit. Just connect a wire between them

Never experienced that problem. Can you share a little more details?
Same problem on older fw versions? Have you tried initializing the eeprom / reflashing the firmware?
Do you have a v1.01 board with the same issues?
