LCD still too dim

I'm using the Newhaven LCD from the BOM and I've replaced resistor 694 with a wire. Replacing the resistor helped, but I think the LCD is still too dim even after adjusting the brightness with the trim. It's hard to see in a typically lit room. Is it just this particular lcd model or is the lcd underpowered? Is there another resistor I should bridge?

I'm reviving this posting...
I have the same question as jbdiver.
Anybody found a solution to this problem?

I do use some lcds I had leying around, they seem all to have different resistors inside of them, but mine works with the external resistor soldered to 0 Ohm.
another point, I think the trim resistor is for contrast only, it has nothing to do with the brightness of the backlight led.
Backlight Leds draw a lot of current, so I could imagine your power supply is maybe not made for so much current, can be up to 100mA, that should already be 10% of your rated power..

Hi,
the Resistor R694(1.2K) in the build instructions is wrong. you have to bridge the R694.
Its in the path LCD Backlight LED supply. The LCD has built-in resistor for LED backlight. so the R694 decreases the current of LED.
