a few ? about my finished yocto and leds lighting (RESOLVED)

I have completed the yocto and am waiting for an atmega chip with the OS before I can call it 100% finished. I'm noticing a few odd things Id like to get everybody's opinion on.
edit: I'd also like to add that LED's 1-4 a very dim.
From what I understand when you power on with a blank atmega chip the the only thing that happens is all of the leds on the step buttons light up. I only have this happening sometimes. Sometimes none of the lights will turn on, other times half of them, sometimes all but 1 or maybe even all but 3. Is this and indication of an issue? If I've powered it on and off it quick succession I can almost guarantee no leds on the step buttons will light up. Only after I've left it unplugged for a few minutes will it give me the possibility of turning on with any of the step buttons lit.
The other thing I've noticed is when I am plugged into the output and flip the switches on the congas/toms, what ever I've just switched to triggers very quietly. I hear nothing with the hand clap. The most concerning thing is when I engage the rimshot switch I hear a loud popping/cracking sound. i can also hear what sounds like a hollow high pitched sound...almost like the tail end of a sound that has been affected with reverb when the volume is turned up.
any ideas or help is greatly appreciated
