Bare Copper for Rotary Encoder

Can anyone recommend a suitable gauge of copper wire for securing the rotary encoder and switches?

If I remember correctly I used 2,5 sq.mm electrical wire, which was a very tight fit.

I second that. I did the same. Probably 1.5mm copper wire would work as well.
