I ruined the regulator on my +5v rail and I'm waiting for a replacement. Does this just supply the sequencer section? Could I build the rest of the machine and run it from the midi input?

Dear spdbll,

You need the +5V for the accent and to power the atmega1284p to use your yocto in Midi.
But you can still built the rest while waiting for the LM2596-5.
