matching transistors

I've just finished counting all parts in the kit, but a question is still roaming in my mind:
Any particular advices for matching transistor couple ?
I did quick search but i couldn't find anything...
I didn't studied the schematics but as far as I can remember when I build the x0xb0x there were a lot of advices for keeping high gain ones (you know , they should be all the same but someone is better
) for certain function (i really think was the VCF).
Practically:
1) transistor matching is neede somewhere ?
2) higher gain transistor are supposed to be placed in some "special places" ?
Maybe this sound sstupid but I prefer to ask.
