DIY External PSU

Hi all,

Just wanted to share what I've made last weekend, it may help people or give some ideas. This is an external AC/AC PSU to feed my Nava, but it can also be used for the Yocto...
When I started to build my NAVA, I first decided to put the transformer inside the enclosure. But now that I will add the Extra9 expansion and I have a slimmmer case with less room, I have to go for an external solution. It will also resolve some problems of electromagnetic buzz in the audio output.
I didn't expect it will be so difficult to find a suitable PSU wallwart: AC/AC, 15V, and at least 1A output current.
So I took back my original transformer which has the right specification and tried to enclose everything.

Here is the result:

Nothing very tricky. I just had to cut a metal sheet to support the TRIAD transformer and fit it into the BOPLA enclosure. Then I've added openning and holes for socket, fuse holder, and cable gland.
The wiring is done simply by following TRIAD schematic. Input windings in serial for 230V (France ;) ), output windings in parallel to have 15V output with maximum current.
I've also put an earth connection on the metal support for safety.

Here under the parts I used but don't hesitate to replace and adapt them at your need:

- Transformer 2x15V output 25VA:

- Enclosure - BOPLA Element 440VL:

- Input socket:

- Fuse holder:

- Fuse T315mA 5x20mm suggested:

- Output cable with 2.1mm plug, 1 meter (other lengths available):

- Cable gland (sold by 10 here, but then you can build many PSU :P ):

Terminal blocks have been bought at the local store.
You can also add some self-adhesive rubber feet for the enclosure, improve electrical insulation, etc.

Hope this will help.

Cheers.

Brave !

If ever, I found that Mascot 8710 or 8810 is a bit (physically) noisy but working fine.

For sure the best would be toroidal outside device's case, as you did.
