v1.01a troubleshooting (no display, but seq. is good)

Hi there

So, I was building the Nava quite a while ago, but I had to move and many other things got in the way and I finally have time to sit down and work on it again, but I am stuck as there is some things that are not working properly.

My display isn't working, though the backlight does. My sequencer looks to be working, LEDs light up, I can program patterns etc, but I have no sounds on the only two voices that I have built - BD and SD.

I do not have 5v at TP1 no matter if I turn TM2. Not with analogue ground or any other ground.

I am a bit confused because I don't have 1.0 or 1.02 - I have 1.02a just between, so for instance the whole R40 thing that I see people writing about; i dont know what to do.

I have tried checking for bad solder joints on my display and the Atmega chip, but haven't found any that seems to need resoldering.

I am asking for advice on how to proceed and where to look for faults, and why I don't seem to have any voltage at TP1..

Sorry if this is a bit vague, but since I haven't worked on it for very long; I am looking for clues and explanations for the difference between the different version and especially what to focus on with 1.01a..

Thank you in advance.

Tried to update via SysEx.. I used the C6 program from Elektron and it seems to be doing the update, but it stalls at this point and when i restart it all LEDS are on..

After update seems to be done

After I restart once again no LED's light up..

Any idea what this means? The update failed?

I am assuming the display would give some information, but I feel like i just took a step back :(

The quality of v1.0 and v1.01a boards is pretty poor. Many users - including me - reported all sorts of issues due to broken traces. Download the PCB Silkscreen files and check the traces in the sequencer section, especially those around IC110. Also check your cabling.

Okay, I have been suspecting that a little bit. Hmm, I will give that a shot and also consider asking Vincent if I could buy a newer board if the quality of those are better.

You don't happen to be based in Berlin, do you? I would love to get some personal help and I would of course pay for the inconvenience.

Thank you for answering in any case.

I would not buy a newer board, now that your Nava is nearly completed. Once your issues are fixed all should be good. The poor PCB quality just makes it very hard not to break traces during the build itself.

I am based in Cologne. If you fail to find the issue I can offer you to send your Nava in for repair. ;)
