SOLVED - PC-2 causing instruments to trigger

Bit of a strange one...

I've been working on a build for a guy that he started but had issues. I've completed the build and changed all of the ICs that had been previously fitted, tested the transistors he fitted, checked out all his work, and I've burnt a fresh Atmega (I was told at one stage he had measured ±30v!!).

So after the first powering I noticed a fault where instruments were being trigged where no step info had been placed. This I thought to be an issue with the sequencer so after lots of trouble shooting with no change I finally thought to just have a play and chill.

Whilst playing with the PC-2 part I noticed different instruments being triggered at different timings and also the tune of the cowbell going off ± a semitone, a ground loop on the kick drum and a few other things. This all was changing with turning the pots of the PC-2, with certain positions and ranges all instruments and the sequencer are working fine. The decay seems off with it going from really snappy full CCW and by 11 o'clock it's at the max, from there to full CW no change also it bleeds into the master. I've checked all the parts of the PC-2 (except the transistors which were checked before soldering) including the pots and ICs - swapping the ICs out.

Any thoughts where to check next?

I'm experiencing the non working encoder fault and am waiting for a chip burner but I doubt this will change any of my issues with PC-2....

Cheers,

I had a grounding issue on the main board, where the previous builder had tried to desolder the PSU header damaging the +12v trace to the rail and also the ground. I'm not sure how I missed this as I had already repaired the +12v trace when starting work and must have confirmed continuity to the ground plain (or maybe not ???).
