NC instrument?

Hello,
What kind of instrument is selected by the step 16 button? The label on my Kacper case says "NC" but I cannot find anything about this in the manual.
Also, the manual states that the external instrument can be programmed by pressing Instr. select + Guide, but step 15 button has a label "EXT". What is the difference between these two?
