Hi to all NAVAists

All the News about progress of my NAVA Expansion Project

- just a short note: I added another mod to the HandClap circuit. 'Density' pot changes the time-interval between the AMP-ENV peaks - total number of 4 peaks is maintained (and much more precisely managed with this mod). Due to lack of space 'Timbre' pot was replaced by a 4position switch.
Find an additoinal audio example on soundcloud with variable density on 4 timbres: https://soundcloud.com/user-90420362/na ... handclap-2

- the best first: Yves Usson - Yusynth - has authorized the usage of his Steiner-Parker Filter design as VCF for the HiHats. That filter sounds amazing on HH  , thanks so much Yves!!!

- Circuit and PCB design has completed. Here's a 3D renderingof the PCB:

Yes, most of the parts are SMD! That's because space is very limited between NAVA PCB and Case. But don't worry - it's much easier to solder by hand than some may fear (Pesonally I now even prefer SMD over TH). Most of the parts are 1206 and pads are large. IC's (most difficult) will probably come preinstalled.

- finally found a supplier to stock the pots - in particular difficult since a couple of revers-log pots are needed. Those are the pots that will come with the Kit:

- Price for a Kit will be around 130€, it includes:
  • - PCB with IC's preinstalled
    - Isolation sheet to install between PCB and NAVA PCB
    - all the pots (37) and switches (3)
    - all connectors - cables preinstalled (no crimping!!! :D )
    - matched Transistors and foil caps for HH-VCF
    - first 1..2 runs (50 units/run) will probably come with all the parts needed (if not price drops by 10€)
- at the moment I'm still busy preparing options for case modifications. Kacper Pawluk is probaly going to offer a modified case (design sent) at the same price (around 100..110€) as the original case. Existing cases could be milled/engraved (no printing!) at Schaeffer for approx. 50€. I'm also in charge of finding a supplier for adhesive front foil sheets, to put as an overlay on top of the modificated area - users could do the drilling by themselfs or at Schaeffer or any other provider - maybe I will have access to a milling machine too... Overlays will be approx. 10€ and thus the cheapest option for modifying existing cases.

- Kits will hopefully be availble in january (mainly because pots have yet to be fabricated)
Meanwhile I'd like to ask anybody who's interested in the kit to sign-in to this list:

Kits will be limited to 50 within a run. People who have registered will be contacted by email on availability and be given priority in buying a kit. However the list is not a preorder - You are not obliged to buy anything...yet!
I would also be thankful to know, what solution people prefer for case modification - please make your selection in the form.

what started with just some minor testing for NAVA Instrument modifications ended up in a long process of detailed analyzing and thorough planning and testing of circuit manipulations. I've never been very much into Drummachines - but that one really catched me - and I'm super happy with the results.

I plan to release the Expansion as a kit soon.. Prototyp successfully tested and improved/final design accomplished!
While I'm still occupied with sourcing some parts and contacting some people - here 's a first teaser.

-------------------------
In short:
37 additional Pots to twist
+ a couple of Range adjustments for existing Pots
  • -BassDrum: PitchDepth, BaseTuning, Noise, Overdrive, +(Increased Decay Range, Increase PitchDecay Range [TunePot], Increased Attack Range [0...bang])
-SnareDrum: PitchDecay, PitchDepth, Decay, NoiseDamp +(Increased Tone Range)
    -Toms: Pitch, OSC1-Level, OSC2-Level, OSC3-Level, Noise-Level
    -RimShot: Tune, Attack, Overdrive
    -HandClap: Tune, Timbre, Reverb
-HiHats: Tune, + a full featured VCF [Cutoff, EnvMod, Resonace, LP/BP/HP Switch]
-Cymbals: alternative AD-Envelope [Attack, Decay, Retrig on/off Switch]
------------------------

But how does it sound? best you check the audio-samples:

Wow! I haven't started my Nava yet, and I had a bunch of mods planned, but I might be interested in this instead of my messy mods!
