Yocto PSU

  • I asked the same via email

he linked this in reply (I am UK too)-

  • Thanks seven

I'm not too keen on PSUs with selectable outputs but perhaps I need to overcome my prejudices!

It's not entirely clear from the photo whether this is a transformer or switchmode supply.

Having done a bit more digging, I've noticed that my local supplier, ESR, has a 1500mA/16VAC supply for GBP8.50 which may be another alternative (it is a "line lump" rather than a "wall wart") - http://www.esr.co.uk/electronics/produc ... pplies.htm

I have an electronics engineer friend who is going to do the build, however I am a bit confused, normally something designed for another country usually needs a step up or down transformer, do you know how this will work or is their a switch?

Thanks for the link btw - the other was a bit pricy!
  • Hello E-licktronic,
I'd like to know what is the polarity of the PSU input to be sure of the PSU that I will buy.
Also another question is, do we need to buy a regulated PSU ? from what I understand the regulation is done inside the yocto but I'm not sure about that.

    thank you very much !

WallWart PSU does not have any polarity because it's an AC (Alternating Current) power supply and not DC (Direct current).

Idem no regulated because of AC PSU.
Where are you from that i can tell you which PSU you need ?

    Best regards,
    e-licktronic

  • Thank you for your answer,
I'm from france but wanted to buy the PSU in a local store, and possibly a better one that you recommended but don't know much about PSUs.
I was wondering about the regulation and I didn't know that AC means no polarity (which makes sense in fact) :)
  • Just ordered from ESR - £13 ish quid inc VAT and postage.

    Hello again,

my Yocto kit arrived today and I am already waiting for Formulor to ship my acrylic box, but I am stuck searching for the PSU now. I live in Germany so I need a 240VAC --> 16/15VAC unit. I tried some web shops (Segor, Conrad, Reichelt, Mouser), but found only a "line lump" variable PSU at Segor (Search for "NT 9-24VAC" in their catalogue). I'd prefer to have a smaller wall plug like PSU.

Do you (or any forumer from Germany, Check Mate perhaps?) have a hint for me?

Thank you very much, I am really exciting to start building the Yocto.

    Cheers, jmx.
  • Hi jmx,
I bought that one of Amazon, it is the right one:
