Discuss Yocto construction and related issues
  • Yep, well done ElSchtroumpf !
Really looking forward to seeing the final result in real.
Was just wondering if the final typo "Rhythm Composer Yocto ..." would be orange like the original 808 or more yellow/goldish like it seems to appear on the picture ?
Well anyway, it looks very nice.
  • @kroutshev, I'm still working on figuring out a way to close the holes. For the C14 it will be easy, I just need some plastic and make 2 holes in them, then screw it in place. For the switch, I might glue some plastic on the inside of the case. Any suggestions are welcome!

@DeepVibes, the orange is indeed a little less saturated than the original. Should be fixed before production!

I received my first PM today of someone who would like a case. If there is enough interest I might consider doing a 30 piece production run, but I would need to know in the following days. So if you're interested in buying one, send me a PM and I will see how many people are interested. I'm not promising anything here, I think shipping the 19 enclosures will be enough work already, so I'm reluctant to make more. I will however discuss the idea with the factory to have another batch made by someone else. If anyone in Holland or France is interested, I'm sure they will be happy to help. Also, after the first batch, they have all the cutting and printing files, they will have less work setting up a production run.

Also, if anyone is interested in the Illustrator files for this enclosure, feel free to contact me!

(and in case someone notices, yes there are too many screw holes on the front panel  I will have them removed tonight)
  • Nice

    Thanks to lfo2vco

but is this the final design? If so I have two question about this.

    - what is the orange point on the grid volumes on all instruments
    - Mounting holes for the acrylic box are no longer useful, why have you left

    Just see you message !!
  • @quadram, Yes I beat you to it there.

I actually have no idea what the orange dots are, but they are present on the original. Maybe someone with more experience with the 808 can explain?

I assumed (and that is all it is) that the orange dots represented optimum level and beyond them the amp is driven!
But that is a total guess. ;)

My completed Yocto is over in the ‘Yocto successfully completed build thread’ if you fancy seeing how my enclosure turned out :P
  • I just got back from the factory, and they are going to make me an unprinted but coated prototype which should be ready around April 20. This pushes the delivery day a few weeks into May.

I prefer doing it this way so everybody can be sure the enclosures will actually fit the Yocto PCB. Once the prototype is finished I'll go over there to check it, and at the same time take some pics, so everyone can finally see what they will be buying.

One important detail : when the prototype is finished I'll have a better idea of what the enclosure will actually cost, and most likely it will be a little higher than 100€. I have no idea how much the price will increase, but I'm pretty sure it will be higher by a few 10 euros. Apparently they didn't take some details in account when writing their offer.

Another extra cost will be the feet, which the factory doesn't supply. Right now I'm trying to find some nice rubber-like, screw-on feet. I prefer screw-on to self-adhesive since glue eventually fails. I'll try to find something with a good quality/price ratio.
  • That's great news!! Thanks :D
  • Hello there, I ve just finished to install my silkscreen studio, so I ll be able to print frontplate , I m juste waiting for my kit to build it and make appropriate frontplate for wood enclosure. I m still looking for steel enclosure. I ve paid a visit to Oxcisaille few weeks ago, they can build anything we want, but don't do any painting neither silkscreen, that's why I ve bought an old silkscreen factory (this project and also editorial stuff, fanzine etc ... )

I don't really know how to start the enclosure plan without an assembled kit, I m not really confident with DXF and FPD file If I can't compare them with the reality of the object, so if somebody has done one wich is 100% reliable I can send it to oxcisaille and ask for a price, and maybe order 5 to 10 enclosure on my own, and then re-sale here (if it's okay with the project owner) if some people find them interesting.
