HiHat issue with C157

  • Maybe someone could check if he also has a contact between the pads? Since they are so close together I think it is nearly impossible to cut in between of them... :(

I haven't built my hihat section yet. I just checked C157... no continuity between the two pads of C157 here.

I am building two Navas parallel. I just finished the HiHat section on both boards. When checking the traces with my multimeter I found a difference between the two boards. On one board I have a bridge between the two pads of C157. Looking at the the traces I guess that this is not normal. I already took out the cap of C157 and cleaned the board but the bridge is still there. It seems like the problem lies in the board itself. Any ideas what else could be wrong or how I could fix this?
Try to scratch with a cutter the solder mask between each C157 pins.

  • Thanks for checking! I was afraid of this since there is no continuity on my other board either. I also tried scratching but without success...

  • I found the reason for the continuity! :D It was a tiny little bridge of solder between R448 and RA9C! The scratch mark will stay as a memorial on my board for being imprecise! :D

Concerning the HiHat: how important is it to match all the 10k resistors? There where none in my BOM which where closer than 0.1 to 10k. Most of them where around 9.82. Will this make any difference soundwise?
  • This board issue might be what's causing my first Nava to have a 5v to ground short making the Nava a beautiful paper weight. I have spent over 40 hours checking my board for human error and there isn't any, even with a high power magnifying glass everything looks spot on. I was hoping that by building this second Nava next week and checking for continuity during and after every section, it might lead me to the answer I've been searching for, plus nobody has been able to help. This next build will probably take an extra 10 hours or so due to the constant continuity checking, but time is one thing I do have and I'm determined to get that first Nava working. It was my best build to date, perfect, and to have it fail before I could even turn the power on was and still is devastating. I'm sure happy to see this post, you've given me something to target.
    Thank you.
  • In my case it wasn't a board issue. When soldering on the back of the board a tiny bit of solder sprinkled between two pins on the front side. That's why I didn't notice it. If not already done also check the front side of the board for solder bridges! Mine was here:

  • Unfortunately I don't have a bridge there or anywhere else I can visibly see, but thanks for your post.
