Capactiors question
-
Hi there, i know the original had greenie poly caps. By default, people go for those in their builds. But my stash of greenies, bought from the usual suspects, tadya & co, doesnt measure up to specs most of the time. I have the feeling that maybe Roland's greenies might have been a tad more accurate..i could be wrong. What do you veterans, Yocto 808 builders have to say on the matter? Any other option for caps? Like.. NOS sprague orange caps, etc?
What do you mean by doesnt measure up to specs most of the time ?
for example 104J you will found around 100nf with 5% tolerance -> between 95 nf and 105 nf you never found 100 nf

you dont need greenies.
normal polyester caps are fine too - i have tried it.
you found in other DIY forums infos about differences between greenies and others too.
more important is the usage of cermet or metal resistors AND the u4558 are different from typ to typ.
i have tried a 20year old u4558 and a new one - the gain was different.
as you know: every TR-808 sounds different

Im talking about 180 nF caps that measure 150 nF andzephyrin wrote:What do you mean by doesnt measure up to specs most of the time ?

150 nF caps that measure 120 nF!
I come from the guitar pedal industry and i am obsessed with caps.. Thats allPatrick wrote: you found in other DIY forums infos about differences between greenies ...
Hope someone can help-
In the hihats section, i put 27nF caps instead of 22nF caps.
Will they work anyway?
Cheers

I think it's better to use the recommended values...Masuto wrote:Hope someone can help-

Ciao
Anyway ,the difference is 5nF, about 20% of capacitance increase.RobyMX wrote:I think it's better to use the recommended values...Masuto wrote:Hope someone can help-
