Hello-
I read through some posts and also saw the updates on the top of the hardware page, but...
where in the changes posted to the BOM do i start with a 1.01a board, and also
do i NEED the MUX_SH board and how many of the changes posted to the BOM are related to the board if i don't need it?
daunting! exciting! i will feel pretty proud of myself when i am finished with this build...
-e
about to begin nava board v1.01a and confused!
The versions don't change significantly.
If you have the older version the fixes are all described in the build guide.
The mux boards are for all versions. Be sure that the BOM contains the SMD parts needed.

well yes, but there are 20 edits listed below the posted BOM for nava 1.0 where one part is replaced by another, such as
a voltage regulator,
"EDIT 07/16/18
-MC7815CTG replace by SCD7815CTG "
i have the one that was in the original BOM but i need to now replace it with this newly listed one before i begin? or is it not really necessary?
maybe those edits are already reflected in the BOM posted at the top of the Nave hardware forum and i only need to compare the pile of parts i have with what is listed?
thanks for the reply.
i wrote to see how to get the mux boards and i am really stoked to begin-
i will go through that BOM now and answer my own questions, hopefully.
i am sure i will have many more

You can begin without the mux boards. You even should, as it may be better to firstly test the unit without them, as they add more uncertainity. Some builders found them to be not working properly the first time.

so could i just go ahead and build without the smd parts and then desolder later if i want to install the boards?
i guess so, since there was a long time of functioning navas in the world before this was released...
so another question relating to the changes to the BOM
there are alot like this:
291-12K-RC
Carbon Film Resistors - Through Hole 12Kohms 0.05
replaced by:
603-MFR-25FRF52-12K
Metal Film Resistors - Through Hole 12K OHM 1/4W 1%
is the difference between carbon film and metal film major? is the difference between a 50v cap and a 100v cap or a 1% and a 2% resistor?
i have most of the parts with 20something which have been replaced. just wondering if maybe its more about availability- like these new parts suddenly became available?
or changing them makes the circuit function better?

Hi Echo,
It was more changes because Mouser ran out of stock.
Carbon or metal resistors for the analog parts doesn't matter. The original was mainly carbon resistors 5% anyway at that time.
Regarding the Capacitors, 50V or 100V no issue either. As long as they stay above 16V as that is the highest voltage on the board.
Have fun with the built. Btw, I got the mux boards, but didn't use them. Machine works fine for me as is currently.

ok, great! i was hoping that was the case.
spent yesterday checking all my parts against the bom to see what i still need to order (not much),
and today i will see if i can understand the build guide while i wait for mouser to ship the remaining parts.
badass!
