Excessive NAVA Expansion Kit

Discuss mods, hacks, tweaks, etc.
  • Sheet would be added of course!
I'll get a lot a stuff in next week (also a new soldering iron - finally - mine has almost 20yrs and is loosing the tip recently )
Till the end of next week I will finish a first modul of the final design. More info as soon as this is done.
  • Hey, still checking regularly if there's anything new. :D

Did you consider putting switches for getting back to the stock values for the mod pots like on Cocteau ? I must admit to be not so confident about the pointer on the silkscreen idea... especially regarding logaritmic pots.

The fact it's SMD is not so much an issue about soldering but it is always cool to be able to easily tweak some resistors or other parts values if needed. I didn't really understand this choice especially as it was shown with Cocteau that it is possible to fit through-holes parts with the same pots used.

Those are just thoughts... of course just do what you think to be the good way. The project is already very exciting as shown.

I just found that drilling in a Chia Shin knob hole with a 6mm bit seems to work very well to put them on the pots shown to be used for this Excessive Expansion Kit. About the height, it makes the top of the pot at 23mm from the PCB. Galaxy3000, do the Nava pots' shafts come at about the same height as the mod pots ?
  • Any update ?
  • Hello,

This project is fantastic. I just finished to install it with a temporary cardboard front panel. Building process is as smooth as for the Cocteau mods. This is very cleverly implemented and the result is near perfect, there is no pot or anything to tweak.

About my previous comments, the fact that it's SMD is really not an issue to tweak parts, it's even almost easier.

If you do it too, be careful about getting good PSU voltages values. I had +14.3 and this was not enough for the mod.

Chia Shin knobs drilled inside to be put on mod pots will be installed only when using the future metal case, as they get harder to remove. About the height of shafts, yes they pretty finish at the same as the original pots.
  • Hi !
Any news and or update on this?
I was following topic for some time and wooow its a must have mod !
    Thanks
  • Interested in a kit

About cases, it seems that both Kacper and Erica Synths will make one.

Here is the link to preorder the one from Kacper:

  • Finally in a case...

At last I had to change some resistors value to get the HH filter quiet. I replaced R71 for a 10K, R72 for a 200K and R86_2 for a 10K. This lower the level reduction to the filter input and the filter output at the same time.

    Very nice! Congratulations! :)

My HH filter had way to much resonance. Raising R84 from 18k to 47k fixed it for me.

Did you drill the Chia Shin knobs to make them fit on the knurled mod knobs? Do they sit tight?
