Controlling NAVA as external instrument.

  HI There,
  
  I should be able to use the NAVA909 as an external drummachine accoring to the manual.
  According to the manual it should not even matter what mode it is in. and that it is just GM.
  However if I connect a midi keyboard/DAW to the NAVA I can not play the device. (i've set the Channels as they should (so the nava receives (and sends) on ch1 which I used)
  It syncs pefectly when in SLV mode by the way, so the NAVA corresponds to midi clock.
  
  Am i missing something here ? Is there a certain setting I need to make ? I can find anything else in the manual about this other then:
  "You can play Nava instruments via MIDI in any Mode. Nava is standart GM format"
