  • Maybe it's just because of some cheap capacitors...
  • The original audio that surfaced when this "fault" came about is exactly correct to a TR-909 and TR-8 and compared to my builds around that time. There is no fault with the circuit for sure. As for cheap caps, i don't use the Tayda film types but I hear often that they are good as for polerized you'd have to be mad to go cheap but this is generally only due to life span.

My thought is that it was never compared to either by scoping against the TR envelopes or audible. Tomorrow I will link the audio that I used to compare.
  • This is the audio I've been using to test against the Nava snare https://soundcloud.com/serum114-wlb/tr-909 .

Please will some one confirm for me that with the snare mods the Nava sounds different (FUCKED) and without the mods its almost identical (GREAT).

And for a comparison here is the TR-09 snare https://soundcloud.com/serum114-wlb/tr0 ... nappy-zero
  • serum, confirmed! ;-)
  • Sorry, but I couldn't find the old file anymore. I just tried to reproduce on my Nava Extra9.

I recommend to listen with headphones. The first hit is a sampled TR-909 SD, the second is my Extra9 with 1M resistor on Env2 and Env3 and the third hit is without any mods. The third hit definately has a longer tail.

Btw: only quality caps from Nichicon were used. ;)

Nice one Luke. Now you should compare Vincents original recording of the Nava snare found on Soundcloud :o

Thank you. I will check what you have later.
  • Yes, this is how it sounded on v1.0 board generation. Nice short decay. But on v1.02 boards it is different. Compare it with demo no. 3 of my audio sample (v1.02 board without 1M mod). I find the difference is very distinctive.
