Would it be possible to make the accent a bipolar control?

So that you could have less overall velocity on the accented beats as well as more?

What do you mean by "bipolar control"?
You could adjust accent velocity by the potentiometer.

I mean a control where there is a center position -- values left to the center would actually give the beats a "negative" accent -- where volume is reduced compared to normal beats, not increased.

Might make for a nice variation of the "accent"-scheme...
