Re: Mid-Tom continous background tone
As Fabi303 guessed correctly in a chat conversation yesterday, one of the germaniun diodes is bad. The diode tester of my multimeter shows a value other than overload when testing against flow direction. Now I have to get some replacement diodes (some, because I also need some to build a distortion ...

Re: Mid-Tom continous background tone
Grounding the switches did not improve the sound noticably. The constant mid tom/conga sound is still there. The low and high tom/conga were fine, even with the ungrounded switch housings. When I tap with the scope pin 7 of U17, I see a pretty strong signal, when not triggered. At the same point (pi...

Re: Mid-Tom continous background tone
I'm using a wall-wart type external powersupply. I will try grounding the switches. Thanks for the advice.
The continuos tone is present on both mid conga and mid tom. In the sound file you can hear, when I switch from one to the other.

Mid-Tom continous background tone
Hi all, last week I (almost) finished my Yocto. It's from a complete kit I got 2 years ago. Shame on me, for finishing it so late. Most stuff worked right from the stuff. Unfortunatly the complete kit contained a fake CD4011BE, so accent is not working, until I get a new CD4011BE. Without it all ins...

Re: PSU problem - wrong voltages...
Have you checked the output voltage of the transformer (this is AC, don't forget to change the setting on your multimeter) and the input voltage of the voltage regulators?
Did you use the alternate wiring with the real ground connection?

Re: Internal power supply and PSU mod
About the noise (the hum at 50/60 Hz) the true "Achilles heel" in my case were once again the flat cables that carry the audio signal to the two printed circuits. It can happen that some wires may become broken, while maintaining an unstable connection that causes a strong hum. About the ...

Re: Noise section revision in service manual
I also had the same issue as MeToo. The minimum voltage I could adjust the trimmer to was about 500mV. I replaced Q35 with a BC549 I had at hand. Now I can tune the noise from 50mv to over 1V with the trimmer. On the scope, it looks like noise with no DC offset. I am currently finishing the sequence...
