Hey Craig,
This sounds very similar to the problem with my cymbal and hihats - my hats AND cymbal make the same noise your hats make, that ringy sound. I gave up on it for a little while and have just decided to start looking for the solution again.
Did you have any luck?

Re: Hats and Cymbal problems?
Thanks for your reply lfo2vco, I replaced the 4k7 resistor in the noise section with a 47k and got the voltage spot on but no change to the sound of the hats and cymbals. I then realised that the noise section shouldn't be affecting the hats and cymbal too much as their tone is generated with square...

Hats and Cymbal problems?
Hi guys, Has anybody else had any problems with their hats and cymbal voices? On my unit, both sound more 'ringy' than they should; I can hear a ring-mod-type, metallic sound and not much noise. The envelopes work fine, the voices just sound a bit off. I did have a problem with the noise section tri...

Re: Sequencer/midi not working
Yes, that's exactly what I did. Now, if I hold down steps 1, 3 and 5 while I turn turning the machine on, it still appears to enter sysex mode and when i send the file with MIDIOX the LEDs light up as if it's receiving data but as soon as the transfer finishes, all the LEDs turn off and the unit rem...

Re: cowbell sound problem, not the right 808 sound
Haha, well done! I had to change a couple of resistors in the cymbal circuit to get my cowbell tuned right. I'm glad you got your tuning sorted out.

Re: Sequencer/midi not working
Also, I did check the parts in the sequencer. All components are in the right way and all the solder joints are clean. It really seems like a firmware/eprom issue to me. Even before it bricked up, it seemed like the machine was carrying bad data, and not saving any new data. Do you think it could be...

Re: Sequencer/midi not working
Thanks for your reply.
I tried reloading the firmware but it bricked the yocto! Now I can't do anything with it and I'm extremely sad and angry. It loaded the sysex, then all the LEDs flashed twice and then nothing. I tried loading it again, but still nothing.
Please help!!!!!!!

Re: cowbell sound problem, not the right 808 sound
Hi tiz,
Did you tune the oscillators with an oscilloscope? I've had trouble with the hats and cymbal but the cowbell sounds just right on my unit.
Trace the cowbell circuit back for errors. It shouldn't be too difficult as the cowbell is the most simple voice circuit

Re: Sequencer/midi not working
After some rest I came back to it and found that I can set the midi notes in expander mode and trigger the voices from my computer but all the internal sequencer modes seem a bit buggy - their default setting is with all the drum voices being triggered on each step. I can deselect them with the sequ...

Sequencer/midi not working
Hi guys, Due to extreme fatigue, I forgot to solder the 74HC165N and 74HC595N ICs in the sequencer section and the optocoupler in the master section... They were just sitting on the PCB, I realised after powering up; the sequencer didn't start, not all the step buttons lit up and there was noise on ...
